Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use

This page makes a random password of exactly 12 characters on your own device, for sites and apps that ask for that length.

  1. A 12-character password is ready when the page opens, with lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols mixed in. Each type appears at least once.
  2. Not happy with it? Press Generate for a fresh one. Each press draws new characters from your browser's cryptographic random source.
  3. If the site forbids symbols or wants only letters and numbers, switch the types off and on with the toggles. The length stays at 12 unless you change it.
  4. Going to type it by hand? Turn on Leave out look-alikes so you never have to guess between a capital I and a lowercase l, or an O and a zero.
  5. Press Copy, then paste it where it's needed. Turn on Hide when someone can see your screen.
  6. For a batch, set How many and get a list, one a line, to copy or download as a text file.

Why 12? Many banks, games and older systems set 12 as the maximum, and a few set it as the minimum. A 12-character password drawn from all four types gives about 78 bits of entropy, which is strong enough for a normal account when it's unique and kept in a password manager. If the site allows more, use the slider: every extra character adds about 6.5 bits, and 16 is a better everyday length.

Your choices (the types and the hide switch) are kept on this device so the page opens the way you left it. The passwords themselves are never stored or sent anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is a 12-character password strong enough?

With all four character types it has about 78 bits of entropy: trillions of trillions of possibilities, far beyond what a guessing attack gets through. Letters and numbers only drop it to about 71 bits, still fine for most accounts. Use a different one for each account.

Why does the site I'm on want exactly 12 characters?

Some systems store passwords in a fixed-size field or follow an old policy, so they cap or fix the length at 12. The password here fits those rules, and you can switch symbols off if they're not allowed either.

Does this page remember the passwords it makes?

No. Each one is made in your browser the moment it's shown and is gone when you leave the page. Only your settings, such as which character types are on, stay on your device.
