Crop and Rotate Image

Crop an image by dragging or with exact pixel sizes, lock a ratio like 1:1 or 16:9, and rotate or flip it. JPG, PNG and WebP, in your browser.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use

This tool crops, rotates and flips an image, without uploading it anywhere.

  1. Add an image: drop it on the box, choose it, or paste it with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac).
  2. Drag the crop box to move it, or drag its corners and edges to resize it. On a keyboard, select the box and use the arrow keys to move it, or Shift and the arrow keys to resize it.
  3. Pick an Aspect ratio to keep the box a fixed shape: 1:1 for square profile pictures, 16:9 for video thumbnails and wide screens, 9:16 for stories, 4:3 and 3:2 for photos. Free lets you set any shape.
  4. For an exact crop, type X, Y, Width and Height in pixels. X and Y are the top-left corner of the box.
  5. Rotate left and Rotate right turn the image a quarter turn. Flip horizontally mirrors it left to right, Flip vertically top to bottom.
  6. Under Save as, keep the format or pick JPG, PNG or WebP, then Download.

The tool crops the full-size image, not the preview, so the result has every pixel you selected. Photos open the right way up. Rotating by quarter turns and cropping don't lose any quality in themselves; saving as JPG or WebP compresses again, so choose a high quality or PNG if that matters.

Frequently asked questions

What size should a profile picture be?

Most sites crop profile pictures to a square, so pick 1:1. At least 400 by 400 pixels looks sharp almost everywhere; the image resizer can shrink a large crop afterwards.

Does cropping lower the quality?

Cropping and quarter turns only keep or move pixels, so they lose nothing. Saving as JPG or WebP compresses the image again; for no loss at all, save as PNG.

Why does my photo turn the wrong way in other apps?

Phones often store photos sideways with a note saying how to turn them, and some apps ignore the note. This tool applies the note before you crop, and the file it saves is stored the right way up.
