Scan QR Code from Image

Read QR codes from a screenshot or photo in your browser: links, Wi-Fi, contacts, events, bank payments and 2FA keys, all codes in it. Nothing is uploaded.

Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use

This tool reads QR codes from a picture, such as a screenshot or a photo, and shows what's in them, without a phone and without sending the picture anywhere.

  1. Add the picture: drop it on the box, choose it, or paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac).
  2. The codes are found straight away and outlined on the picture, each with a number. A picture can hold several codes; each one is read.
  3. Each code shows what kind it is and what it holds: a Link and the site it goes to, a Wi-Fi network with its password, a Contact, an email, a phone number, a text message, a place, a calendar event, a Bank payment (SEPA or Swiss QR-bill) or a Two-factor sign-in key. Anything else is shown as text.
  4. Press Copy to copy what a code holds, or Open link to go to a web address in a new tab. Contacts save as a .vcf file and events as an .ics file, ready for your address book or calendar.

A two-factor key shows the code it makes right now, so you can check it before moving it to another app. Google Authenticator's export codes list every account in them.

Before opening a link or paying, look at where it goes. Anyone can make a QR code, and some lead to fake sites or accounts. Payment codes show the IBAN and check its digits. Links are never opened for you, and only web addresses can be opened at all.

If no code is found, try a sharper or larger picture, with the whole code in it and a little space around it. Codes on screens photographed at an angle read best when the code fills a good part of the picture.

Frequently asked questions

Can I scan a QR code that's on my own screen?

Yes. Take a screenshot, then paste it here or drop it on the box. This is the easiest way to read a code on a laptop, where a phone can't point at it.

Is the picture uploaded to read the code?

No. The code is read in your browser, on your device, so screenshots of tickets, Wi-Fi passwords or payment codes stay with you.

Can it use my camera?

Not at the moment. It reads codes from pictures, so take a photo or a screenshot first, then add it here.
