JPG to PNG Converter

Convert JPG photos to PNG in your browser, one or 50 at a time. PNG keeps every pixel from here on, for editing or sharp graphics. Nothing is uploaded.

Convert to

Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use

This page turns JPG (or JPEG) images into PNG files, right in your browser, so they never leave your device.

  1. Drop your JPG files on the box, choose them, or paste an image with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). Up to 50 at once.
  2. PNG is already picked under Convert to. There's no quality slider: PNG is lossless, so every pixel is saved exactly as it is.
  3. Download each PNG, or all of them in a ZIP with Download all (.zip).

Why convert a JPG to PNG? Usually because the next step needs it. Some sites and apps only take PNG. An image you're going to edit and save several times stays exactly as it is through every save, where a JPG would lose a little detail each time. And a PNG is the better start for adding text or a logo with crisp edges.

What PNG won't do is make a photo sharper. Any blur or blocky patches the JPG already had stay in the PNG, just without new ones. Expect the PNG to be larger, often several times over for a photo, because nothing is thrown away.

Photos taken sideways on a phone are turned upright. Camera details and the location stored in a JPG aren't copied over.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. PNG stores the picture exactly as the JPG showed it, flaws included. It only stops further loss when you edit and save the image again.

Why is the PNG so much bigger?

JPG throws away detail to stay small, and PNG keeps every pixel. For photos that usually means a file several times larger. If you need a small file that opens everywhere, keep the JPG.

Will the PNG have a transparent background?

Not from converting alone. A JPG has no transparency, so the PNG has none either: the background stays as it was in the photo.
