PNG to JPG Converter

Turn PNG images into JPG files in your browser, one or 50 at a time. Pick the quality and the colour behind transparent areas. Nothing is uploaded.

Convert to

Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.

How to use

This page turns PNG images into JPG files on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.

  1. Drop your PNG files on the box, or choose them. You can also paste a screenshot with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). Up to 50 at a time.
  2. JPG is already chosen under Convert to, so each file starts converting straight away.
  3. Move the Quality slider if you like. Around 85, a JPG looks the same as the PNG to most eyes and is often several times smaller. Go lower for smaller files, or higher for screenshots with fine text.
  4. PNGs can have see-through parts, and JPG can't. Pick the colour that fills them under Background for transparent areas. White suits documents; match your page's colour for a logo.
  5. Download the JPGs one by one, or press Download all (.zip).

When is JPG the right choice? For photos and pictures with soft gradients, almost always: the files are much smaller and open everywhere, from old phones to email. For screenshots of text, line drawings and logos, PNG often stays sharper and can even be smaller, so compare the sizes in the list before you switch for good.

The JPGs keep the size in pixels of your PNGs. Details stored inside a PNG, such as the app that made it, aren't copied into the JPG.

Frequently asked questions

Will my PNG lose quality as a JPG?

A little, as JPG saves space by smoothing detail the eye barely notices. At quality 85 that's hard to spot in photos. Sharp text and thin lines show it first, so raise the quality for screenshots.

Why is my JPG bigger than the PNG?

That happens with flat graphics and screenshots, which PNG stores very efficiently. For those, keep the PNG, or lower the JPG quality to get a smaller file.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Each PNG is read and turned into a JPG by your browser, on your device, and never sent anywhere.
