How to use

This page turns JPG photos into WebP, the image format made for fast websites, without the files leaving your computer or phone.

  1. Drop your JPGs on the box, choose them, or paste one with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac). Up to 50 at a time.
  2. WebP is already set under Convert to, so each photo is converted as soon as it arrives.
  3. Try the Quality slider. It starts at 80, which suits most photos on a website. Each row shows the old size and the new one, and the total says how much smaller the batch got, so you can pick the lowest setting that still looks right.
  4. Download the WebPs individually, or all at once as a ZIP.

Why WebP? At the same visible quality it's usually a quarter to a third smaller than JPG, so pages load faster and use less data, which search engines take into account too. Every current browser shows WebP, including Safari.

Where your browser can't save WebP itself, as in Safari, the page uses a WebP encoder that comes with it instead, and you get the same kind of file. Photos keep their size in pixels, turned upright if the camera stored them sideways.

Frequently asked questions

How much smaller will my images get?

Usually 25 to 35% at similar quality, sometimes more at lower settings. The list shows the exact size of every file before and after, so you see the saving straight away.

Do all browsers show WebP?

Yes, every current browser does: Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Some older desktop programs and email clients still don't, so keep your JPGs for sharing outside the web.

Is converting JPG to WebP lossless?

No. WebP compresses again, so a little detail goes. At quality 80 or above it's hard to see, and your original JPGs are never changed.
