Add Page Numbers to PDF
Number the pages of a PDF in your browser. Choose the corner, the style (Page 1 of 10), the size and where to start, and skip a cover. Nothing is uploaded.
Runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.
How to use
This tool adds page numbers to a PDF, in your browser, so the file never leaves your device.
- Add a PDF: drop it on the box or choose it. If it asks for a password, type it; it's only used here.
- Pick a Style: just the number, "Page 1", "1 of 10", "Page 1 of 10", or Your own text, with {n} where the number goes and {total} for the last number.
- Choose the Edge (bottom or top), the Side (left, centre or right) and the Size. For a document printed on both sides, Swap sides on even pages keeps every number on the outer corner.
- Set the Distance from the edge. The thumbnails show each number where it will go, as you change things.
- To leave a cover or contents page without a number, set Number from page, and Start counting at the number the first numbered page should have.
- Press Add page numbers, then download the numbered PDF, named like report-numbered.pdf.
Numbers are placed on each page as you see it, the right way up, even on pages that are turned or cropped. They're real text in the PDF's standard Helvetica font, so they print sharply and can be searched. That font covers English and Western European letters; letters it can't show, such as ą or č, are pointed out before anything is saved.
Only the numbers are added. Links, bookmarks, form fields and everything else stay as they were.
Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering from page 2 or 3?
Yes. Set Number from page to the first page that should have a number, and Start counting at to the number it should show. A cover can stay blank while the next page is page 1.
Will the numbers sit on top of my text?
They go where you choose, a set distance from the edge, over whatever is there. Check the thumbnails: if a number touches text, move it to another corner or change the distance.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The numbers are added in your browser and the PDF never leaves your device.
