How to use

This page converts WebP images to PNG on your own device, keeping any transparent parts transparent.

  1. Drop the WebP images on the box, pick them with the button, or press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac) to paste one. Up to 50 go in one batch.
  2. PNG is preselected under Convert to, and converting begins as soon as files are in.
  3. Download the PNGs one at a time, or as a single ZIP with Download all (.zip).

PNG is the format to choose when the picture has a see-through background, such as a logo, an icon or a cut-out product photo. It keeps those areas exactly, where JPG would fill them with a colour. It's also the safest choice for editing programs and design tools that don't take WebP yet.

PNG is lossless, so there's no quality to set: the PNG shows exactly what the WebP showed. The file will usually be larger, because WebP compresses harder. If you need it small and transparency doesn't matter, the WebP to JPG converter makes lighter files.

Only the first frame of an animated WebP is kept, and the list mentions it. Pictures are saved in standard sRGB colour.

Frequently asked questions

Does the PNG keep the transparent background?

Yes. PNG supports transparency fully, so the see-through and half see-through areas of the WebP stay exactly that way.

Should I pick PNG or JPG?

PNG for logos, icons, screenshots and anything transparent. JPG for ordinary photos, where it makes much smaller files.

Why does the PNG take more space?

Many WebPs are compressed with some loss to begin with, and WebP squeezes harder even when it's lossless. PNG stores every pixel, so the file grows.
